The Church's districts in Belize are now part of the Guatemala Cobán Coordinating Council

On February 21, the Central American Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that the districts in Belize are now part of the Guatemala Cobán Coordinating Council.

The Area Presidency expressed their gratitude for this event and for the upcoming dedication of the Cobán Guatemala Temple, which will allow Latter-day Saints in Belize to be closer to the temple.

Belize Cayo District President Leovany Lopez expressed that he, his family, and Church members in the country are happy and want to continue serving in the best way with the Cobán Region.

"There's excitement to go to the Cobán Temple.  This is perhaps the most special blessing for us, knowing that the temple is closer and that it will bless our members to continue on the covenant path. The leaders of the Cobán Coordinating Council very kindly welcomed us like a family. Jorge Alvarado, president of the Cobán Mission, has taken us by the hand and with encouragement to join efforts so that the Gospel continues to grow, as well as the Area Seventy assigned to the Coordinating Council, Elder Bruno Vásquez.  The support of Elder Ryan K. Olsen, member of the Area Presidency, has been fundamental in this transition, and his love and faith for the members in Belize strengthens us and helps us recognize the love of God and Jesus Christ for us," added President Lopez.

The Church in Belize

Belize has more than five thousand members of the Church of Jesus Christ. They have been blessed since the early 80's when the first missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ started coming to Belize.

Latter-day Saints in Belize strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ, to serve wherever they go, as the third stanza of the hymn "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go" reads:

“There’s surely somewhere a lowly place.

In earth’s harvest fields so wide

Where I may labor through life’s short day

For Jesus, the Crucified.

So trusting my all to thy tender care,

And knowing thou lovest me,

I’ll do thy will with a heart sincere:

I’ll be what you want me to be.”
